Privacy Policy

We built this app with privacy as a foundation, not an afterthought. Here is exactly what we do — and don't do — with your data.

Last updated: May 1, 2025

🧠
On-device AI
All analysis runs on your iPhone. Nothing sent to servers.
🚫
No accounts
No sign-up, no email, no user profile on our end.
☁️
Your iCloud
Scan history stored only in your personal iCloud account.
1
Information We Collect The short answer: almost nothing
We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal health data. Your ingredient scans, health profile, allergen settings, and custom flags stay on your device and in your own iCloud account.

The app collects only the minimum required to function:

  • Camera access — used in real-time to scan labels. Images are never saved to our servers or transmitted anywhere.
  • iCloud account — your scan history and Food Box sync through your own Apple iCloud account, not ours. We have no access to this data.
  • Purchase receipts — StoreKit 2 handles all subscription management through Apple. We never see your payment details.
2
How Your Data Is Used Only to make the app work for you
  • Ingredient analysis — processed entirely on your iPhone using Apple's on-device AI (Foundation Models Framework). The ingredient text never leaves your device.
  • Health profile & flags — stored in your personal iCloud account and syncs automatically across all your Apple devices. Only you can access it.
  • Scan history — stored in SwiftData with CloudKit sync, within your own iCloud account. Only you can access it.
  • Custom allergies — stored locally on your device. Never transmitted anywhere.
🔒
We have no server, no database, no backend. There is no system on our end that receives or stores your scan data, health information, or usage patterns.
3
Third-Party Services What we use and why
  • Apple CloudKit — powers iCloud sync for your scan history. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple StoreKit 2 — handles Pro subscription purchases. We never see your payment information.
  • Open Food Facts API — used to look up product names and nutrition data by barcode. Only the barcode number is sent. No personal data is transmitted. Open Food Facts is an open-source, non-profit database.
  • Apple Foundation Models — on-device AI for ingredient analysis. Runs locally on your device. No data leaves your iPhone.

We do not use Google Analytics, Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Crashlytics, or any third-party analytics or advertising SDK.

4
Data Sharing We don't share your data
🚫
We never sell, rent, share, or trade your data with any third party, advertiser, data broker, or business partner. There is no data to share — we don't have it.

The only circumstance in which data could be disclosed is if legally required by a valid court order or government authority. Even in that case, we hold no user data that could be disclosed.

5
Children's Privacy Safe for all ages

Nutrition Facts AI is rated 4+ on the App Store and is appropriate for all ages. Because we collect no personal information, there are no special considerations required for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children or anyone else.

6
Your Rights You're in full control
  • Delete your scan history — tap "Clear all history" in the History screen at any time.
  • Delete your profile — reset all flags and custom allergies from the Profile screen.
  • Delete all data — uninstalling the app removes all local data. Your iCloud data can be removed from Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Storage.
  • Cancel subscription — manage or cancel your Pro subscription at any time from Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.
7
Medical Disclaimer Important — please read
⚕️
Nutrition Facts AI is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. Ingredient scores and flags are based on general nutritional guidance and your personal profile settings. Always consult your doctor or a qualified healthcare professional for medical decisions.

The app's analysis is intended as a general-purpose reference tool only. It should not be used to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any condition or disease.

Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
